Bucas Horse Rugs
Over 10 years ago, disappointed by the rugs available on the Australian market, I bought a Bucas rug in the UK and brought it home to OZ. It was such a success that I haven't used any other brand since then. I also ended up importing Bucas rugs into Australia so that I wasn't the only person to reap the benefits.
I'm delighted to say that Bucas have now welcomed me on board their team of sponsored riders and I couldn't be happier to be associated with a brand I know, love and trust.
Living in the Southern Highlands we are particularly prone to changeable weather. The sudden and dramatic changes in temperature could easily make rugging a full time job at Wallaby Hill, if it weren't for the versatility of the Bucas rugs's temperature range. Furthermore, during our colder seasons, our horses, even the clipped ones, can still wear only one rug and stay warm, ensuring that they aren't over-laden with heavy rugs, which not only prevent the coat's ability to breath; but can bring about shoulder and whither rubs. Their special "stay-dry" wicking lining is a fantastically engineered drying fabric. Horses with wet coats are quickly dried regardless of the climate. There are so many products of theirs I could rave about, as they are all I use; but the other aspect of Bucas that I hugely admire is the fact they are always developing and improving their range, to ensure they are bringing you the latest in high-tech fabrics, in rugs that are built to last.

Bucas design, create and make high performance horse rugs and related equestrian products.
Since 1981, when Bucas was founded in Cork, Ireland we have merged the great Irish equestrian tradition with the latest technical developments and experience from other industries, countries and markets. This has resulted in the development of a wide range of highly innovative and technically advanced products. From the beginning we have exported more than 90% of our products to markets around the world.
In 1982, they produced the first high performance water resistant turnout rug. This was followed by the first fully waterproof and breathable rugs by the end of the eighties. Bucas have also perfected the “Stay-dry” principle of using wicking linings that transport sweat and moisture away from the horse while the inside of the lining remains dry.
In the 1990’s they developed the first truly light weight fully waterproof and breathable turnout for use at higher temperatures than ordinary turnout rugs. They also introduced sun reflective rugs and anti-bacterial linings.
In 2000 Bucas introduced the revolutionary Buzz-Off full body fly and UV protection rug. The outstanding overall performance and durability of this product is reflected in the strong customer approval and satisfaction.
In 2012 Bucas then launched another revolution with the Buzz-Off Zebra fly rug. The rug was designed on the lines of why Zebra’s in the wild are never bombarded with flies and it’s down to the pattern of their stripe. Simply put, the flies are confused by the stripes so stay away!
Bucas are not showing any signs of slowing down with the launch of the New Select Range of rugs this year. Feature on the rugs in National newspapers and Blogging websites, which for an equestrian company to be in the mainstream news feed is a great achievement.
Bucas is the name which is synonymous with technical equine rugs and for good reason too! They pride ourselves in creating a collection of technical horse rugs to ensure that your horse is suitably dressed no matter what the weather or occasion throws at you!
Thus, this great tradition of pioneering “intelligent” horse rugs continues and our product range today includes a greater choice of high performance products than ever before.
